80th Birthday Cake

Last month, I had the pleasure of making the 80th Birthday Cake for my husband's grandma.  Being 80 is definitely a milestone,  so I wanted this cake to be really memorable and something that would capture the celebrant.  I never really had the chance to make birthday cakes for my grandparents or even show them what I can do,  so this project is dear to me.   The celebrant's name is Rosa which of course means Rose in English and she also likes to garden, with those details in mind, I executed my design. I created different flowers made out of sugarpaste (Hydrangeas, Stephanotis, Blossoms and Roses), the flowers were either airbrushed or hand painted and air dried for a couple of days.  Being that I like clean designs, i used the quilting technique for the top tier and used my lace molds to add another design element at the bottom tier.  To commemorate how awesome of a grandma she is, I added an edible frame with her picture as a topper (which is also edible, by the way.).  Personally, I think photographs are wonderful elements to put on a cake especially when you're celebrating such a huge milestone.  So here's to more wonderful memories and good health to a wonderful and loving grandmother,  Happy Birthday and may you have many more!
